Sandmeier Charolais Cow Herd:

Spring Calving Cows with calves at pasture

Sandmeier Spring Calving Cows with Calves at Pasture

At Sandmeier Charolais, the cow herd consists of between 650 and 700 registered purebred charolais cows. A  60-day breeding program is utilized for a spring and a fall calving program.  Artificial insemination is incorporated into the breeding programs.

The cow herd has a strong genetic influence going back to the Avignon blood line.  (Many of the herd bulls carry the Avignon influence in their pedigree.)

No creep feed has ever been used in the Sandmeier operation.  That fact has helped to  put together a cow herd that takes care of itself.  The cow herd is basically maintained on a roughage ration of hay  and straws when they are not on pasture.
